CORE™ Technology means:

   -  Significant time savings      -   Manpower savings       - Easier handling       - Increased flexibility for rescuer

Core Technology      What is CORE™ Technology?

CORE™ Technology (COaxial Rescue Equipment technology) refers to the hoses, couplers and valves of a rescue system. In other words: the way hydraulic oil is directed from pump to tool and vice versa.

A traditional dual hose system consists of a separate pressure and return hose connecting pump and rescue tool. A CORE™ system consists of a high-pressure inner hose inside a low-pressure outer hose.

CORE™ Technology is a revolutionary turning point in rescue tool technology and more than a new piece of equipment.  It is a major technology that allows rescuers to re-think and simplify extrication techniques and standard operating procedures. Compared with a traditional (dual hose) system, working with CORE tools will save time, be easier to use, save manpower, and is safer.

CORE™ hoses are extremely easy to roll and unroll; just walk away and   the hose will unroll by itself without kinking

With one hookup to the pump, live tools can be "hot swapped"  on scene with CORE™ tools.  No need to return to the pump.

Set up, use and pack-up
Working with a traditional rescue system requires you to follow 17 steps. Setting up the system - steps 1 to 6 - takes a considerable amount of time. The same extrication process requires fewer steps with a CORE™ system than with a traditional system: 11 instead of 17! A CORE™ rescue system also allows you to take (some of) the 11 steps in random order, increasing your degree of flexibility. The total time to set up the CORE™ system steps - 1 to 3 - takes up to 50% less time than setting up a traditional system. During steps 4 to 11 - connecting, disconnecting, selecting and rolling - more time is saved. Total time thus saved may make a crucial difference! A CORE™ system may also save manpower and is much more user-friendly in practice.
Rolling and unrolling of the hose
Rolling and unrolling a CORE™ hose is much easier and quicker than rolling a traditional hose. You can for instance unroll a hose while walking with a connected tool to the extrication spot and start opening the tool in the meantime. It is no longer necessary to separate these different actions.

The following CORE™ features make this possible:

  • A CORE™ hose can rotate freely (360°). It is therefore impossible for a CORE™ hose to get twisted.
  • A CORE™ hose is reinforced with state-of-the-art multi-layered Kevlar, providing a much greater degree of hose flexibility.
  • A CORE™ hose is one single hose and certainly handles like one. Two hoses attached to each other, like the separate return and pressure hoses of a traditional system, are much more difficult to handle than one single hose.

Much easier rolling and unrolling of a CORE™ hose saves valuable time and is much more user-friendly.

Coupling and uncoupling

A CORE™ hose has fewer couplers (and dustcaps) than a traditional (dual) hose (2 instead of 4). Every connection of a hose to a pump and tool means 2 times coupling instead of 4, and 2 times clicking dustcaps together instead of 4. With a duo pump this means a saving of 8 times 'coupling and clicking'!

  • A Holmatro® 4000-series / CORE™ rescue tool no longer has pigtail hoses. Instead a CORE™ hose gets coupled directly at the tool. This allows you to couple the tool in any position, even when holding the tool in one hand and clicking the hose on with the other hand.
  • Bend restrictors at either end of the hose provide maximum grip during coupling and uncoupling.
  • Clear indications printed on hose. It is obvious at one single glance which side of the hose should be connected to the pump.
CORE™ can not only be coupled in any position, fewer connections (couplers) also result in significant time savings

Changing under flow

A traditional rescue system requires you to switch the pump (valve) to neutral, before changing (disconnecting and connecting) the rescue tool is possible. A CORE™ system allows you to change the tool while the hose is under flow (*). This brings with it a number of significant advantages:

  • It is no longer necessary to change over at the pump. The person standing near the pump for this purpose can perform for other rescue tasks. Rescue team members can be deployed more efficiently.
  • Changing the tool instead of changing over at the pump means one hose less at the extrication scene and therefore less hose handling while swapping from cutter to spreader and vice versa.
  • You can change your tool any time, whenever the circumstances require and without delay. Connect a tool any time, without changing over at the pump.
  • The sequence of getting started and packing up is much more flexible. For example: The pump can be started and be under flow before connecting the hose to the pump and the tool to the hose. The other way around is also possible.

(*) Please note that 'under flow' is not the same as 'under pressure'. 'Under flow' means that the pump is running and that the valve is always 'selected'

CORE™ allows for changing under flow. This results in increased flexibility, time savings and manpower savings!

Number of hoses in action circle

As seen above, coupling and uncoupling CORE™ tools is quick, easy and can take place at any time and in any order. This means that for example a CORE™ pump with a single valve provides the same operational options as a traditional pump with change-over valve. The result:

  • Fewer hoses on the extrication scene and in the action circle. The extrication scene will be more organised and 'clean' and the risk of tripping over hoses is reduced.

Working with CORE™ equipment results in a more organized and safer extrication scene.

Hose color

A traditional rescue system requires changing over at the pump. To identify the tool, different hose colors are almost imperative. Working with the CORE™ system, a tool can be changed any time, anywhere, without paying attention to the pump.

  • With CORE™ it is no longer relevant to be working with different hose colors (*). One hose color, the same for all tools, is enough. This provides you with more flexibility as hoses are 100% interchangeable. Holmatro® CORE™ hoses are standard available in orange and blue, optional in green or black.
(*) Of course choosing a bright color hose, which is more easily identified, is always to be preferred.

Using different hose colors is not necessary with CORE™. This allows for           maximum interchangeability of your hoses.
